Kanye West Charged W/ 3 Misdemeanors

"Kanye West has been charged with three misdemeanors stemming from a September 2008 incident at LAX airport in which the 808s & Heartbreak rapper had a confrontation with paparazzi that resulted in cameras being smashed and Kanye being arrested. TMZ reports that the LA City Attorney charged West with misdemeanor counts of vandalism, battery and grand theft and that he’ll be arraigned April 14th.

West’s road manager/bodyguard Don Crawley was also charged with six counts stemming from the incident, two for vandalism, two for grand theft and two for battery. According to TMZ, if convicted on all charges, West would face two-and-a-half years in prison. West’s lawyer declined to comment on the charges.

As we reported back in September, West was walking through the American Airlines terminal when he confronted a pack of photographers that congregated nearby. From there, West reportedly smashed a camera on the ground while a photographer yelled for help. A TMZ camera operator videotaped West’s initial confrontation, prompting Crawley to then demand the TMZ photographer to give him the tape. The TMZer refused to hand over the tape, so then Crawley allegedly smashed that video camera. After all the purported camera smashing, West attempted to board his plane but was stopped by police. West then reportedly rushed the TMZ photographer and demanded “Gimme that fucking tape!” but was restrained by police. Both West and Crawley were booked and released."
